Virginia Classic 2012

We will be showing in the East Complex of the Virginia Horse Center this year!

Health Papers

The legislation relaxing health requirements for camelids entering Virginia for exhibition purposes HAS BEEN SIGNED. The legislation is expected to go into effect late January. This means all llamas and alpacas coming from blue tongue and tuberculosis FREE states will only be required to have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI). Please consult your vet as to the status of your state or have them contact the Virginia State Vet directly with questions.

    Highlights

    • Series Awards
We'll be giving out achievement awards to the top point earners from the three shows in the Virginia Show Series. Llamas and youths must have entered at least two of the three shows to be eligible. Awards will be given in youth, halter, performance, showmanship and some special catagories. They will be awarded during Saturday night's dinner at the East Coast Invitational. The 2011 Award Winners will be announced at Saturday Night's dinner.
    • Best in Show and Judge's Choice
We'll be awarding a Llama "Best in Show". If there are more than 300 llamas entered, the Best in Show winner will receive $1,000. For the alpacas if there are either 400+ huacayas we will award a "Judge's Choice" and that winner will also receive $1,000. Pack your trailers and bring your friends!
    • Saturday Night Fundraiser Auction
Once again will be holding a fundraiser during Saturday Night's dinner. The proceeds will be split between the care and feeding of rescued animals and the SPCA. We're looking for donations! Debra and Lucy McDougall will be organizing the auction and John McDougall will be our auctioneer. Please contact the McDougalls at dlmcd1734@aol.com if you would like to contribute an item to the auction.

Update on premiums: Due to a 50 percent loss in revenue we were unable to award premiums this year. Those who won championships will receive modest vouchers that may be used towards the 2012 show. With hopes the Virginia health requirements get relaxed, we plan to get back on track next year. We also plan to have the alpaca show certified with AOBA. We're looking for farms willing to sponsor the certification fees. Please contact Paige if you're interested in sponsoring. For those who requested ribbons that they did not receive at the Virginia Classic, you have not been forgotten. There were not enough requested to meet a minimum order requirement so, they will be added to the Blue Ridge ribbon order and distributed as soon as they arrive. Thanks much for your patience.

Thank you to everyone who entered, vendors, spectated and volunteered!! See you next March if not before. Be sure to keep checking back for the Blue Ridge Llama and Alpaca show information to be posted.
